Micromath® Introduces Scientist® 3.0
Latest Version of Micromath's Popular Modeling, Data Analysis, Graphing and Curve Fitting Software Offers Improved Graphics, User Interface and Data Handling.

Saint Louis, Missouri - December 6, 2005 - Micromath®, a leading developer and publisher of scientific software for scientists and engineers, today released Scientist® 3.0, the latest version of Micromath's powerful and easy-to-use, modeling, data analysis, graphing and curve fitting software. Used by over 7000 researchers worldwide, Scientist is widely recognized as one of the most easy-to-use and powerful data analysis tools for scientific research.

Many scientific software applications were originally designed to create graphical output and added data analysis functionality later. Scientist was designed from the ground up to fit experimental data to mathematical models. Scientist is designed for researchers who "know what's going on" with their data and need to establish solid parameter values to model real world phenomena.

Scientist can fit data to models that are difficult or impossible to develop with other scientific software applications. Scientist models can consist of non-linear algebraic equations, differential equations, implicit equations, Laplace transforms or multivariate equations or systems containing all of these equation types. With Scientist, models of even the most complex systems are exceptionally easy to create. Users do not need to learn a programming language or intricate syntax. Anyone able to do math with a pencil and paper can create a complex models using Scientist. In addition, Scientist provides a broad range of statistical output, including parameter estimates, confidence limits, various measures of goodness-to-fit, variance-covariance and correlation information, and analysis of residuals.

Micromath Partners With SST to Develop the First New Version of Scientist in Ten Years

Scientist 3.0 is the fist new version of Scientist in almost ten years. "We have always had a great product," said Chris Thornton, Micromath's Vice President of Sales and Marketing, "but due to the unfortunate passing of the company's founder and most talented programmer, Dr. Jeffrey Fox in 1999, development of Scientist came to a standstill for several years. The main challenge in getting the development of Scientist back on track, was finding people with the right mix of programming knowledge and scientific experience."

Micromath found that rare combination in Dr. Roy Furman and his team at Scientific Software Tools, Inc. (SST), a leading developer of scientific tools for the medical, pharmaceutical and healthcare industries. Dr. Furman, an MD and PhD, has led the development of numerous innovative software applications used by a wide range of clients including several fortune 500 companies. "When we saw Scientist's unique capabilities, we were very excited to work with Micromath on Scientist 3.0," said Dr. Furman. Micromath plans to add additional features and functionality to Scientist in the future. "Over the years, our users have suggested a number of ways to improve an already strong product. We are looking forward to working with SST to make Scientist an even better research tool for scientists and engineers" said Thornton.

What's New in Scientist 3.0

Improved graphics functionality. Scientist 3.0 supports over 50 different 2D and 3D chart types including statistical series, vector3D series, contour series, waterfall series and many more. What's more, every element of each chart can be completely customized using context sensitive, intuitive interfaces. Hundreds of standard themes can be used to create a look and feel that best presents your data or you can create custom themes of your own. Features such as lighting, transparency and shading are also adjustable. All formatting items can be saved as a customized chart template making formatting multiple charts a breeze.

Project Interface. Scientist 3.0's new, easy-to-use, project interface makes it easier to keep track of your data, models and results.

Improved Import/Export functionality. Scientist 3.0 makes it easier to get your data into and out of Scientist. You can import your data directly from Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, Access databases, SQL and DNS databases or any delimited file format. You can export your graphics in nine different formats including .jpeg, .pdf, postscript and VML.

Cutting and Pasting. Cutting and pasting is easier in Scientist 3.0. You can cut data from any Windows application and paste it into a Scientist spreadsheet and vice versa. Charts can be quickly and easily be cut and pasted into any Windows document, spreadsheet application or presentation application.

Speed. Scientist 3.0 has been optimized for 32 bit operating systems and takes full advantage of today's faster CPUs and abundant memory.

Stability. Scientist 3.0 implements the powerful fitting algorithms that have made Scientist the data analysis tool of choice for thousands of scientists and engineers worldwide. Scientist 3.0 has improved error handling and stability. On the rare occasion when Scientist 3.0 encounters an exception, the user is given an error message and the opportunity save data or work in progress.

Support. Micromath has expanded its support of Scientist for version 3.0. In addition to telephone and E-mail support, users of Scientist 3.0 can report and track bugs or make suggestions on Micromath's web site. Licensed users can also download service releases from the web site as they become available.
